Jim Nelson Photography, Your Family Portrait Photographer
Specializing in Outdoor Family Portraiture

As your family portrait photographer our approach is for everyone to have a relaxed and fun photo session.  This will bring out the personality and natural expressions in everyone giving you the portrait you’ll hang proudly in your hallway or over your mantle for years to come.  Your family reunions are an especially good time with all your extended family gathered in one location.  Then during your portrait session you can have any combination of people you want from individual to any size group.  As a family portrait photographer we can help with any questions you might have about being photographed and best of all there will not be one person missing in a portrait because they were the one taking the photo.  We also do minor retouching to people such as hair out of place and closed eyes.  More extensive retouching can be done such as moving people. Here are a few tips on planning your family portrait session:  the most flattering light is early in the morning around 9 a.m. or late in the afternoon around 5 p.m. when everyone can dress for the session.  As a general suggestion wear earth tone or neutral color clothes and not bright flashy clothes so everyone’s face is the center of interest and not your clothes.  Here are a couple of ideas to get you thinking about how to make your family portrait unique:  everyone dress for a theme or wear a family T-shirt designed for the portrait.

After your portrait session your proofs will be online in a week at a password protected web site.  You will be able to order reprints and share this site with anyone you wish.
